Programme Description
This accredited Safety Officer Skills Programme is a short learning programme designed for individuals who want to start a career in occupational health and safety across various industries, including construction, manufacturing, logistics, mining support services, warehousing, and general industry.
The programme is derived from a nationally registered health and safety qualification and allows learners to complete selected unit standards and accumulate credits. These credits may later be used toward completing the full qualification. The programme is ideal for individuals entering safety roles such as Safety Officers, SHE Representatives, Safety Interns, and Junior Safety Practitioners.
Note: This skills programme does not enable registration with SACPCMP as a Safety Officer. Registration is only possible once the full qualification has been completed.
Unit Standards Covered
The Safety Officer Skills Programme includes the following unit standards:
Apply health and safety to a work area – 3 Credits
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevant current occupational health and safety legislation – 4 Credits
Conduct an investigation into workplace incidents – 5 Credits
Conduct, report, and follow up on pre-use, safety, and audit inspections – 5 Credits
Demonstrate an understanding of and implement environmental initiatives in the workplace – 6 Credits
Accommodate audience and context needs in oral communication – 5 Credits
Write texts for a variety of contexts – 5 Credits
