Course Description

The Working with Asbestos Safety Course provides essential knowledge to identify asbestos, understand its health risks, and apply safe working practices where asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) may be present. The course focuses on awareness, legal compliance, exposure control, and safe work procedures for workers who may encounter asbestos during maintenance, renovation, demolition, or construction activities.

  • Identifying asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) and common locations

  • Asbestos registers, exposure records, and documentation

  • Asbestos exposure risks and exposure standards

  • Air monitoring, control measures, and health surveillance

  • Legal duties, prohibitions, and licensing requirements

  • In-situ asbestos management strategies

  • Bonded and friable asbestos materials and associated risks

  • Safe working practices with bonded asbestos materials

  • Restrictions on high-risk activities (e.g. water blasting)

  • Asbestos in buildings, cladding, cement products, and soils

  • Awareness of asbestos removal activities and limitations

Target Audience

Construction and maintenance workers, plumbers, electricians, technicians, supervisors, facility maintenance staff, contractors working on older buildings, Safety Officers, and SHE Representatives.


Entry Requirements

Basic literacy and numeracy. No prior asbestos training required.


Certification

Learners who successfully complete the course will receive a Certificate of Attendance for the Working with Asbestos Safety Course.
